
David Oakes

David Oakes was a Instructor at the Musician's Institute for 26 years, He began playing guitar as a child and was performing with Orchestra by age 16. A student of Jesus Silva at the North Carolina School of the Arts, David traveled to Los Angeles to study with Pepe Romero.
His initiation to MI was as a student, he was noticed by Tommy Tedesco during a Tedesco workshop almost immediately and Tommy petitioned the administration to hire David. They eventually made an album together.
David was an associate professor of Music at The USC School of Music for 13 years in the Studio Jazz dept.

David is a author of several best selling guitar books,
“Music Reading for Guitar” and “Classical/Fingerstyle playing techniques”
